INTRODUCTION

Islamic Affairs is the original entity of the Religious Unit which was established on 3rd March 1971 and placed under the Student Affairs Division. It was established with the aim of helping students to equip themselves with basic knowledge of religion, while solving religious problems that arise among students. Starting from February 1998, the Religious Unit was given a new name, the Islamic Development Unit, which was placed under the Integrated Islamic Service Center (PKIB) which was based at the UiTM Islamic Center. Its role and function was extended to religious propagation services among staffs in addition to its essence for students. In January 2001, it was returned to its original function under the Student Affairs Division, then starting in early January 2003 UHEI was reinstated under the Student Affairs Division under the name Centre for Religious Advice. Finally, on January 13th 2004 and up until now UHEI has merged with the Center for Islamic Education and has been placed under the auspices of the Centre for Islamic Thought and Understanding (CITU) and was given a new name as Official Hal Ehwal Islam (HEI). Its staff consists of Religious Advisory Officers, Imams and Bilals. Now the name has been changed to ACIS (Academic Contemporary Islamic Studies).
